ALERT: PROPOSED MILLAGE RATE INCREASE

Heads up, Fulton County taxpayers—four Democrats on the Fulton County Board of Commissioners are once again proposing an unnecessary and excessive property tax increase for 2025.  They wish to implement a millage rate increase from 8.87 to 9.87 for 2025, and the vote is scheduled for Tuesday, August 6th. If approved, this would increase property taxes by a whopping 12.49%, hitting homeowners especially hard at a time when rising home values are already pushing tax bills through the roof.  Even for renters, the property owners are likely to pass on the tax increase to them.  This will affect almost everyone if not stopped.

For those unfamiliar, the millage rate is essentially the “per $1,000” tax rate used to calculate property taxes. Even if the rate stays the same, your tax bill goes up when your property value increases. But now, instead of providing relief, the majority on the board wants to raise the rate itself—a double whammy for homeowners, renters, and small business owners alike.

Thankfully, our two Republican commissioners—Bridget Thorne and Bob Ellis—are standing firm against the proposed increase. They've called out the bloated budget and insisted that the county should live within its means. But with Democrats holding the majority, they need backup from us, the taxpayers.

Public hearings are being held leading up to the August 6th vote, and it's critical that residents show up, submit comments, and make some noise. When we stay silent, they assume we don’t care. We must remind every member of the Board that we’re watching—and we vote. Fulton County doesn’t have a revenue problem—it has a spending problem. And now is the time to say enough is enough.

To help spread the word and educate our voters, the Fulton County Republican Party is hosting several informational events with Commissioner Thorne and Commissioner Ellis.  Please check out our calendar of events to find a date and time that works for you or view their respective websites to view their townhall dates.

WHAT'S WRONG WITH THIS picture

There are several reasons as to why this increase is unnecessary, excessive, and tone deaf to the needs of residents…

  • Fulton County proposed keeping the millage rate the same, which would still generate a $7 million surplus.
  • Despite that, four Commissioners are pushing for a tax hike that would take $78 million more from taxpayers.
  • County spending is already wasteful and inefficient—this increase would only make it worse.
  • Seniors on fixed incomes can’t afford a double-digit tax increase. Many are already being forced to leave the county.
  • The tax hike will hurt both young families and longtime residents, making it even harder to buy or keep a home.
  • While families are tightening their budgets, the Commissioners seem unwilling to do the same with government spending.
  • Commissioner Marvin Arrington has used taxpayer funds for lavish travel, including trips to film festivals like Martha’s Vineyard.
  • Fulton County doesn’t have a revenue problem—it has a spending problem.
